Virtually untouched since it was built, our second 1979 ranch makeover is a great example of how old houses can be recycled and made new again. A partial-height wall divided the kitchen and living room, hiding the full potential of the space’s vaulted ceiling and original skylights. We tore down the wall and associated cabinets, and ripped out the ton (literally) of bricks surrounding the wood stove. We reclaimed all the original wood cabinets by applying multiple coats of paint and fresh hardware. New plumbing and lighting fixtures throughout, a new roof, and a new HVAC system make this house functionally as good as new.
