Located within walking distance of downtown Salida, Colorado, the Two Rivers neighborhood features a mix of single- and multi-family residences anchored by a small commercial core. For our first project in this development, we looked to the ranching and agricultural history of the Arkansas River Valley for inspiration. We started with a traditional farmhouse and then continued to simplify and refine the form. The fine stucco finish helps modernize the style and takes advantage of an ideal material for the area’s dry climate. Inside, mountain views to the north and south are captured with ample glazing. The interior finishes were kept simple and sparse, with wide plank flooring and black hardware hinting at the look of a traditional farmhouse. To make full use of the narrow but relatively long lot, space has been left in the backyard for the construction of an ADU.
